* Interview by Jenny Worman
Q: WHAT INITIALLY DREW YOU TO SUPPORT RON PAUL?
JULIET: As a Congressman, Ron Paul’s words and actions have always been in complete harmony with the highest ideals of Peace And Freedom. He is the only politician I have ever known to consistently support the philosophy our founding fathers gave us in the Constitution. I first saw Ron Paul when Bill Maher introduced as “My New Hero” on his show. I was very surprised at this from such a cynical comic. After watching every video I could find on Dr. Paul, I was so impressed by his commitment to Peace and Freedom that I knew I had to support him in any way I could.
Q: TELL US ABOUT THE INCEPTION OF “HOTTIES FOR RON PAUL” THE 2008 CALENDAR; HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE IDEA?
JULIET: In 2008, I met so many great, spirited Ron Paul supporters, and I noticed one thing: These people were for the most part, intellectuals. They were nerds. They were not average people. They were somewhat introverted, theoretically oriented, academics. I sensed a lack of familiarity with concepts like marketing and commercialism. I wanted to bring an element of accessibility to the Ron Paul Campaign that had the power to reach out to the man on the street, the non-political or even apolitical individual. I wanted to reach out to people on a broader, grander scale, to show them who this mild-mannered congressman was, to introduce ordinary people to the thoughts and actions of this humble, yet extraordinary man.
Q: DID THIS CREATE ANY CONTROVERSY?
JULIET: There was some controversy about the calendar in ’08 from some Ron Paul supporters, but in fact Ron Paul’s press secretary bought 5 copies of the calendar. It proved to be very popular! The calendar was mentioned in an article on the front page of the LA Times, in an article in U.S. News and World Report and in a political commentary blog by the LA Times, besides numerous nation-wide radio programs, including NPR.
Q: DOES THE “PIN UPS FOR RON PAUL” 2012 CALENDAR SUPPORT THE RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT CAMPAIGN?
JULIET: 20% of all proceeds from sales of the calendar will go to the Ron Paul Campaign.
Q: WHERE ARE YOU FINDING MODELS FOR THE NEW CALENDAR?
Juliet: I have set up a facebook page for interested participants: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=180320258693281
Q: WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A PIN UP FOR RON PAUL?
Juliet: Each photo should have a concept that conveys a message of the Ron Paul revolution in a fun and creative way. The search for lovely lady activists for the calendar is still on, but will soon be ending.The classic pin-up idea of an all-American girl in a sexy swim suit or other kind of cute outfit, is such an historically American standard, that I’d like to keep this in the style of the 40′s/50′s era style, though of course there will be differences! Our girls will be supporting timely issues with the timeless principles of our own Constitution, just like our man Ron Paul. If anyone’s interested, they should contact Juliet@JulietAnnerino.com, or search me on facebook and send a message.
Q: AND WHAT COULD BE MORE ALL AMERICAN THAN THE GENRE OF PIN UP?
Juliet: Exactly! The concept of the pin-up calendar is that it speaks directly to anyone visually oriented, not just people who are interested in politics. My hope is that the calendar will be displayed in public areas, businesses, offices, restaurants, shops, barracks, garages, homes etc. Anywhere people gather together will be a great opportunity for exposure to not only a collection of beautiful, freedom-loving female activists in sexy attire, but exposure to the ideas of the best man to be our next President of the USA, Dr. Ron Paul.
